Cho San Lin’s works are sort after both nationally and internationally. He paints children’s, official, family, adult portraits and landscapes. Born in 1975, he is a graduate of the Mandalay State School of Fine Arts, where he studied painting and sculpture.
Cho San Lin’s paintings capture the essence and vibrations of daily life in rural Myanmar in a most naturalistic style. Whether it is a painting of his much loved Myanmar or a commissioned piece, his portraits capture the essence of the person and moment, powerfully projecting their character and aura.
His works go beyond capturing an accurate likeness or a treasured moment. It is his ability to project character, spirit, personality and communicate the dynamism of his subjects that sets him apart. This is what transforms a mere portrait into a work of art which endures for generations. His paintings are meticulously executed in oil, richly detailed and take three to four months to complete.
It is no wonder it has taken us over a year to bring him to Singapore where he will display stunning portraits of Myanmar men and women with a cheroot* or pipe. This habit is so distinctive that they have been nicknamed a ‘Burmese facial feature’. A sampling of portraits will also be on view. Limited commissions available on a first come first serve basis.
* A cheroot is a cigar distinctive to Myanmar (Burma). It is not unusual to see Burmese ladies puffing away on cheroots today. The world “cheroot” is derived from the French word cheroute, which comes from a Tamil word meaning “roll of tobacco.”
